Technology is something which we often turn to first when there is a change in our lives. Most of us will be accustomed to logging on the internet to quickly check a query or to learn more about a subject of interest. Sometimes that initial search sign posts us onto the next stage and with that information we are often better informed to take the next step forward. Sometimes however, the information available online is no substitute for a conversation with a human being.
In the area of divorce, I often hear of people talking about doing it online themselves. In some cases, perhaps where the marriage has been short and there are few assets and no children, then doing it yourself may be suitable. However, in the majority of cases, taking advice before starting a divorce is sensible and in relation to some aspects, absolutely crucial. Ending a marriage is not just about obtaining a Decree Absolute (the final certificate), it is about settling all those financial ties that were created under the marriage contract, signed up to so readily on the wedding day. Taking expert professional advice before divorce can ensure that you avoid the pitfalls which could cost you dearly. Divorce can be a period which brings about feelings of emotional turmoil and financial insecurity. Being guided through the process from beginning to end, knowing that every aspect has been considered properly before decisions are made is, the best way to ensure that your position is secured so far as possible. The children will of course experience changes in their family unit and handling those arrangements carefully will ensure that they too are supported and better able to adapt to their new lives.
If you are thinking of taking the next step in your life, I am able to offer a first free initial meeting to assess your situation and consider with you what needs to be done to help you and your family and when.
